The Douglas Hotel renovation transformed a historic landmark in downtown Urbana, Ohio, into a modern residential community offering one- and two-bedroom apartments for senior residents. Designed as a Historic Tax Credit project, the renovation carefully preserved the building's historic character while adapting it to meet the needs of contemporary living.

The project included restoration and repair of the existing structure and exterior façades, along with a complete interior renovation featuring new apartment layouts, finishes, and building systems. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and life safety systems were fully modernized, including the installation of a new sprinkler system, fire alarm system, and elevator. Throughout the design, accessibility and universal design principles were prioritized to create comfortable, safe, and inclusive living spaces that meet current building code requirements while respecting the building's architectural heritage.

The result is a thoughtfully restored historic property that provides high-quality senior housing while preserving an important piece of Urbana's architectural history.
