Johnson Building – Medical Office Renovations
Urbana, OH
2020
McCall Sharp Architecture transformed the first floor of the former Johnson Manufacturing Building in Urbana, Ohio, into a modern medical office facility as part of a comprehensive adaptive reuse project. Previously vacant and significantly damaged by fire, the historic industrial building required extensive structural rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements to accommodate its new use.
The renovation involved reconfiguring the existing interior to provide medical examination rooms, reception and waiting areas, administrative offices, and supporting spaces. The design emphasizes efficient circulation, accessibility, and a functional environment for both patients and healthcare professionals.
Improvements included restoration of original window openings, replacement of windows and doors, structural repairs, and installation of new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems. New accessible circulation features and updated building entrances further support the building's transformation into a contemporary medical office environment.
Through the thoughtful reuse of an existing industrial structure, the project preserves an important part of Urbana's architectural history while providing a renewed space for healthcare services and contributing to the revitalization of the surrounding community.
