City of Cambridge Fire Department Renovations

Cambridge, OH

2025

McCall Sharp Genet Architecture provided design services for the phased renovation of the City of Cambridge Fire Department facilities, totaling approximately 7,070 square feet. The project focused on modernizing firefighter living quarters, improving administrative and training spaces, and enhancing operational efficiency while allowing the department to remain fully operational throughout construction.

To minimize disruption, the City acquired an existing building across the street from the fire station, which was renovated into a 2,640-square-foot Administrative and Training Building. The facility includes administrative offices, a public lobby, training and meeting spaces, and restroom facilities. The design also accommodates future expansion, including the potential addition of a dedicated decontamination area to support firefighter health and safety.

Following the relocation of administrative functions, renovations began within the existing fire station. The 4,430-square-foot residential renovation transformed outdated living spaces into a more functional, comfortable, and private environment for firefighters. Improvements included an expanded kitchen and dining area, reconfigured bunk rooms with enhanced acoustic and visual privacy, modernized individual restroom and shower facilities, and upgraded mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. A new exterior deck and improved circulation further enhanced the station's daily functionality.

Through careful planning, strategic phasing, and the use of temporary facilities during construction, the project successfully modernized essential fire department spaces while maintaining uninterrupted emergency response operations.
